In terms of monitors, I'd recommend anything Acer. Having the same resolution on both screens makes for a better experience. It's really not much fun to have to work on one screen that is 1600X1050 and then another that is 1366 X 768. I'd say go with something that has a 1366 X 768 resolution on the laptop side, and spring for the dual capable dock and a second monitor. If you want a laptop screen resolution that will come close to what you get with one of the monitors people have mentioned in this thread, you will end up paying more (probably about $100 - $200 more) to get that resolution. If you think about it, you can probably save some money on the laptop to justify the expense to get users 2 monitors. Most laptops should have power settings that allow you to set it to do nothing when you shut the lid, so that should not be a problem if you want users to have the true dual monitor experience. Recently, I have been able to get Latitude 5520 / 6520 with i5 and the dock for about $1100. I believe the one that comes with dual DVI capability is the E-Port Plus. I agree with what others have posted about Dell Latitude and the dock. My boss recently bought himself a new HP laptop with an i7 thinking it had a dock (and it did not). Make sure if you do go the HP route that you get a laptop that supports a dock that is not USB.
